- Step 1. Get your learner permit. Pass the theory test, then apply to the NDLS for the permit. You need it before your first lesson.
- Step 2. Fill in the form, or ring us. Your details first, then your county, your town and manual or automatic. Ring 021 2355558 instead if you would rather talk.
- Step 3. We match you with an instructor. We confirm your instructor and car, and lessons start from a point you agree. You can pay online or by phone.
- Step 4. Pretest, then the test. Once your test is booked, an hour in the area around the centre shortly before the day, then the same car for the test.
Essential Driver Training is twelve lessons a learner permit holder must complete with an Approved Driving Instructor before the driving test, each signed off in a logbook. Some foreign licence holders qualify for a reduced course of six.

You learn with an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-controlled car. The first hours stay on quiet streets while moving off, stopping and the gears become second nature. Busier roads come in when you are ready for them, at your pace rather than to a set script.
A learner permit holder needs the twelve EDT lessons before the test. We sign your logbook as you go and tell you plainly where you are, so you do not pay for hours you do not need. Once your test is booked, a pretest in the area around your centre comes with car hire for the test itself.

Yes, for EDT and pretest alike. Instructor times vary from town to town, so we confirm your instructor and car when you enquire. If you sit the test in an automatic, your licence covers automatics only (code 78).
Can I ask for a female driving instructor?
Yes. Tell us when you enquire, along with anything else that matters to you. We confirm your instructor when we come back to you.
